Story: Devil Hunter Yohko, known as Mamono Hunter Yohko in Japan, was originally a joint project for a video game to be released along with a "one-shot" OVA (Original Video Animation). The production for the OVA was done by TOHO Co., LTD. Devil Hunter Yohko had sequals done not too long after it's original release in 1990. In 1992, TOHO and MADHOUSE produced two more OVA episodes. Since at the time Magical Girl shows were becoming popular in Japan, it's not too hard to figure out that this was what was in mind when these two episodes were released. But as the years passed more episodes were made, and were as "dark" as the first episode was. So far counting six episodes total (including the fourth episode which was a music-video collection), Devil Hunter Yohko's popularity is continuing to grow, and so is the demand for more episodes. Stepping back, the current leading Anime distributor in the U.S., ADV Films, had just began their company in 1992, picking Devil Hunter Yohko as their first title. Now all of the Devil Hunter Yohko episodes can be found on special 10th Anniversary DVDs from ADV. At the time of it's release, Devil Hunter Yohko surely made a difference in the U.S., back then the only Anime usually to be found released domestically in the U.S. were "Mecha" shows. Devil Hunter Yohko is recommended to viewers who like to laugh, but of course, episode 1 has it's "moments" which may be appropriate only to adults.
